The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Type 14, introduced in Europe in 1955 and in the U.S. in 1956, combined German engineering with Italian design. Styled by Ghia Studios and built by the Karmann coachworks, it featured the same dependable, rear-mounted, air-cooled engine as the Beetle but wrapped in a sleek, sports car-inspired body. Nearly 450,000 units were produced during its run, with only about 80,000 convertibles, making open-top models like this one particularly desirable. While not a performance car, its low stance and smooth ride made it a joy to drive — and a design classic that's appreciated by collectors around the world.
